Patient Notes & Communication Logs — Text Write-back
Why This Matters
Text write-back is a Type 4 feature that saves Weave conversations directly to the patient's PMS profile. It's heavily used in the veterinary vertical and is a good example of how write-backs work for non-appointment data.
What You'll Learn
- What text write-back is: saving a Weave message thread to a patient's PMS profile
- Why it's most used in the vet vertical: offices need conversation context saved against pet/client profiles
- The manual trigger model: the office selects a message and explicitly triggers the write-back
- How the patient communication log works in Weave: viewing message history per patient
- What happens in the PMS after a text write-back: the message appears in the patient's communication history
- Why this feature avoids manual copy-paste between Weave and PMS

Lesson Summary
Text write-back lets office staff save a Weave conversation to a patient's (or pet's) PMS profile without copy-pasting. The use case: a staff member is messaging with a pet owner (Derek) about one of his pets — the conversation contains clinically relevant info. Instead of manually copying it to the PMS, the office triggers a text write-back from the Weave messages section. The message is written to the patient/pet profile in the PMS. The patient communication log in Weave shows full conversation history. This feature is particularly valuable in the veterinary vertical where conversation context about pets needs to be preserved in the clinical record.
